St. Petersburg to Open Artificial Intelligence Development Center

In 2026, Russia’s northern capital will launch a dedicated AI development center, positioning the city as a national hub for advanced technologies.

The new AI Development Center in St. Petersburg is scheduled to open in 2026. The initiative is closely tied to the federal government’s decision to create a nationwide coordination hub for artificial intelligence. As one of Russia’s leading scientific and technological cities, St. Petersburg is seen as the ideal location. The idea of creating such a research center at ITMO University had been discussed for several years and is now becoming reality.

According to Governor Alexander Beglov, additional plans include launching services for accessing subsidized medications via electronic certificates and rolling out a biometric payment system for public transportation.

The establishment of the AI center is considered a strategic move for the entire country. It will serve as a platform for selecting the best solutions and fostering dialogue between government, academia, and business.
