Cyber Ranges Open in Russian Universities

Russia is rolling out specialized cyber ranges at universities to train students and young professionals in identifying and countering digital threats, with a special focus on protecting the transport sector.

The Russian University of Transport has become the eleventh higher education institution to open a dedicated Ampire cyber range. This training platform will allow students and cybersecurity professionals to practice detecting, analyzing, and mitigating the consequences of cyberattacks. The curriculum emphasizes protecting the nation’s transport infrastructure.

The simulator will serve both core academic programs and continuing education for current professionals. It also features a built-in module for school students and non-specialists who want hands-on experience.

The platform’s configuration supports up to ten training sessions at once. Instructors can create custom templates for exercises, designing attack scenarios tailored to the specifics of individual organizations, according to Softline Solutions.

Developers have also created a new template that accounts for the unique infrastructure of the transport sector and a range of possible attack scenarios. This, they say, will elevate the training of cybersecurity specialists to a new level. Classes at the Russian University of Transport’s cyber range are set to begin in September 2025.
