Russian Glass Industry Tests AI “Digital Assistant”

A factory in Siberia is piloting an AI-powered tool that analyzes images of molten glass in real time to predict and prevent defects before they occur.

Anton Mor, CEO of Siberian Glass—the largest glass packaging producer in the Urals—spoke about the company’s digital transformation at the Eastern Economic Forum. He emphasized that pairing technology with the expertise of plant specialists will help improve product quality.

Sibsteklo produces 900 million glass containers annually and is also one of Russia’s largest glass recyclers, according to the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources. The plant is now testing a “digital assistant” for operators of glass-forming machines. The hardware-software system uses neural networks to analyze photos, video, and thermographic images of molten glass droplets. It can predict defects at the droplet formation stage and address root causes before they escalate.

Mor added that the company’s broader goal is to integrate artificial intelligence across all stages of production.
