Russia’s Transbaikal Region Is Building a Digital Map for Family Support

A new online navigator will help families with children find social assistance faster and more easily.

In Russia’s Transbaikal region, a team from Transbaikal State University is developing an interactive map called “Transbaikalia — Territory of Care.” The platform will act as a digital guide to social services, consolidating information about welfare programs, cultural centers, schools, and sports facilities across the region.

Users will be able to find the nearest assistance centers, contact specialists for consultations, and learn about available programs by simply selecting their town or typing a keyword like “help for children.” The system will instantly display relevant addresses and contacts, streamlining access to social support.

Collaboration Between Social Scientists and Engineers

Several university departments are working on the project. The Department of Social Work collects and verifies data, while the Department of Applied Informatics and Mathematics handles the platform’s technical architecture and user-friendly design. The regional Children’s Rights Commissioner oversees the project’s content and coordination.

According to Marianna Zhilyaeva, head of the Department of Social Work, the new map will make social support more transparent and accessible. Families will no longer have to sift through scattered sources of information—they’ll be able to quickly find the help they need through a single, unified digital resource.
