Russian Researchers Develop AI Platform for Mineral Exploration

Scientists at Transbaikal State University are developing a digital platform that uses artificial intelligence to predict the locations of mineral deposits.

Instead of processing geological data manually, the researchers are building a unified geospatial information system that combines geological records, satellite imagery, and research data. AI will accelerate data analysis and help identify promising areas for mineral exploration. The system is expected to achieve forecasting accuracy of up to 90%.

By the end of 2026, the team plans to present a prototype of the platform along with the Tsifrovoi Geologicheskii Navigator Zabaikalskogo Kraya (Digital Geological Navigator of Zabaykalsky Krai), a database designed for mining companies and research organizations.

"By 2028, we plan to build on these technologies to create a unified digital mineral exploration and forecasting model for the entire Far Eastern Federal District," the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation said in a statement.

According to the corporation, the model will rank the most promising exploration areas, improve the efficiency of geological prospecting, reduce mining companies' exploration costs by at least 25%, and strengthen Russia's technological independence in this field.
