A Digital Mining Lab Will Open in Russia’s Zabaykalsky Region
Using digital technologies and raw-material analysis, the facility is expected to help mining companies make ore processing more efficient and production more environmentally friendly.

A scientific and educational digital mining laboratory will open in Zabaykalsky Krai at the Dauria campus, the region’s governor, Alexander Osipov, announced on his Telegram channel.
The lab will focus on improving ore-processing efficiency, introducing environmentally friendly technologies, and optimizing production processes for mining companies through raw-material analysis and digital solutions. The facility will operate at the intersection of science, IT, and industry.
Not Just Extraction, but Education
In Russia, growing attention is being paid not only to introducing advanced technologies into mineral extraction, but also to developing education and research in this field.
Earlier, a “Virtual Mine” laboratory opened at the Department of Geotechnology of the Institute of Mining and Geosystems at the Siberian State Industrial University. Students there can use software to create virtual models of mine workings, place equipment at the working face, and simulate production processes, from operating mining combines to configuring air and gas monitoring sensors.
At the Gubkinsky Vocational College, two stationary VR simulators have been introduced, allowing students to train in the repair and servicing of oil and gas equipment. Instructors monitor progress through a digital platform, combining VR with online learning to support comprehensive skills development.
