First Gadgets Powered by Russia’s “Giperkom-U” Processor Unveiled

The devices are designed for corporate customers and provide secure data storage.

Russia’s market for specialized secure software is expanding rapidly. Many of these solutions are comparable to foreign alternatives, and in some areas even outperform them. But software alone is not enough. Corporate users also need work devices with a high level of protection.

A Russian Processor Paired With a Russian OS

Russian company AISA IT-Service has taken an important step in that direction. At the Microelectronics 2026 exhibition, the company presented pre-production samples of the first secure industrial smartphones and tablets built around the K1892VM21Ya (“Giperkom-U”) Russian processor developed by ELVEES Research and Development Center and running the trusted Aurora operating system. The developers emphasize that these gadgets are being built not for the mass market but specifically for corporate users. From the outset, they are designed to operate in extreme conditions. The main customers are expected to include companies in mining, transportation, oil and gas, and energy, as well as emergency-response services, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Built for Tough Conditions

The smartphone is designed to operate at humidity levels of up to 95%. Users can edit documents on it and certify them with a qualified electronic signature. The device also supports centralized software updates and integration with existing IT systems.

The tablet features a high degree of sealing, impact resistance, and a service life of more than five years. It has a 10-inch display and Ethernet, RS-232 and USB ports. The device also comes with mounting brackets and a stylus.

Data Security Comes First

Aurora is also designed for enterprise use. It combines digitalization with a high level of information security. The operating system is expected to be updated to version 5.2.2 soon, with the changes being made in response to user feedback.

Aurora has also been certified by Russia’s Federal Security Service and the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control. That certification means the operating system can be used at critical information infrastructure facilities.

“For us, the development of Aurora and domestic hardware are interconnected tasks. Together, they create the foundation for an independent technology platform. At the same time, international cooperation is essential. Having our own core gives us the ability to participate from a position of strength while retaining control over critical technologies,” says Pavel Eiges, CEO of Open Mobile Platform.

How Russia’s Domestic Gadgets Have Evolved

Russia has been developing secure devices for corporate users for several years. Back in 2021, for example, the Mashtab Research Institute, together with mobile-platform developers, was working on the TrustPhone smartphone, adapted for the Skif processor developed by the ELVEES Research and Development Center. At the same time, the domestic Aurora OS was being adapted for different hardware platforms. The smartphone could be used by any organization for which protecting data was a priority.

That same year, QTech introduced the QMP-M1-N smartphone and its rugged QMP-M1-N IP68 version for government agencies and corporate users. In 2023, Aquarius announced the start of mass production of smartphones and rugged handheld computers running Aurora. The lineup included the Aquarius NS M11 and rugged Aquarius NS M12. In 2024, a Russian Sputnik smartphone powered by the Skif processor was announced. It was designed for use in closed IT infrastructures and for routine workplace tasks.

The presentation of the devices from AISA IT-Service continues work that has been gaining momentum in recent years. Russian engineers are now developing complete work solutions rather than individual hardware components. Once again, devices in this class are primarily intended for industry, transportation, energy, government and infrastructure organizations, where security and centralized control are the top priorities.

The AISA smartphone and tablet built around the Russian Giperkom-U processor are an important step toward creating our own technological core. Sovereignty is determined by the ability to develop a product independently: change its architecture, fix vulnerabilities, release updates and support devices for years. That requires domestic expertise in microelectronics, operating systems and development tools
