Checks Contractors, Helps Prevent Cyberattacks: Angara MTDR Launches Counterparty Analysis Service

Angara MTDR, a division of Angara Security, a leading Russian information security integrator and provider of more than 80 cybersecurity services, has unveiled a new Counterparty Analysis service. The service is designed to assess digital risks when selecting new business partners and help companies work safely with existing contractors.

Angara Security offers a comprehensive range of services to protect organizations against current threats at every stage of an attack. Its clients include financial institutions, government agencies, industrial companies and telecommunications operators – organizations for which security, confidentiality and the prevention of data leaks are critical.

One Breach Can Put Dozens of Companies at Risk

The Counterparty Analysis service combines automated data collection with expert assessment by the company's professionals. It is designed for information security and corporate security teams, risk management departments, and senior executives responsible for ensuring that business relationships with counterparties are both successful and secure.

Angara MTDR's study, From Response to Prevention: 2025 Incidents, found that about 19% of all identified fraud techniques were associated with working with trusted contractors, rather than unfamiliar or suspicious partners. For an attacker, gaining access to another organization's infrastructure through a trusted contractor with extensive access privileges is an attractive opportunity. According to Angara MTDR's estimates, breaching just one contractor can give attackers access to dozens of other companies if that contractor has administrative privileges or maintains the customer organization's infrastructure. Smaller organizations are particularly vulnerable. Their employees often lack multifactor authentication, privileged access controls and monitoring, making these businesses an easy gateway for attackers.

Can Check Any Organization

The new Counterparty Analysis IT product addresses this problem by using Angara ECHO and Angara MTDR's automation systems to examine third-party organizations' digital footprints at a customer's request. The service can assess both prospective and existing business partners. Potential subjects include suppliers, contractors and customers. Its checks draw on a wide range of sources, from public and dark web resources and industry forums to Telegram channels and temporary file storage services. Automated searches are supplemented by reviews and analysis from Angara MTDR experts.

Long-Term Plans Include International Markets

Experts expect the product to be useful in a range of scenarios: vetting a new contractor before granting access to corporate systems, sharing confidential information with a business partner, and investigating alerts about possible data leaks. Customers receive a clear, user-friendly report identifying threats, assessing risks and recommending how to engage with the organization under review. The developer stresses, however, that the service is not a substitute for a full information security audit or penetration test. Instead, it identifies externally observable indicators of potential threats as part of a defined assessment. The report covers only information discovered within the agreed scope of the check. It does not include unrelated data about the counterparty, such as employees' personal information.

The Russian-developed solution also has export potential because cyberattacks targeting companies through their contractors are not confined to Russia. Potential markets include the Middle East, the Persian Gulf region, Southeast Asia, India and Turkey. However, successful expansion into global markets will depend on demonstrating the service's effectiveness in its home market.

The critical importance of technological sovereignty in information security to the stable operation and security of the domestic economy, increasingly stringent regulatory requirements for information security product and service providers, and the maturity of the market's leading players will make information security one of the most resilient segments of the IT market in the face of potential competition from international players
