Geoscan has completed Saudi Arabia’s largest project to search for gold deposits. The exploration work was conducted using drone technology developed by the Russian company.

The survey covered 1,000 square kilometers (386 square miles) and took 52 days to complete. Because of the high temperatures, most of the surveying was carried out at night.

The project used Geoscan’s own airborne geophysical survey system, equipped with a Geoscan 401 quadcopter and a Geoshark quantum magnetometer. The equipment is designed for geological mapping and detecting geological structures and faults. The resulting data will allow the customer to assess the area’s potential for future gold mining.

“The scale of the project and the conditions in which it was carried out required our team to respond quickly and adapt technical approaches to the working environment. Even so, we completed the survey on schedule and obtained data that met the customer’s requirements. The results once again confirmed the reliability of our system and our team’s ability to conduct airborne geophysical surveys under the most challenging conditions,” said Dmitry Goglev, head of geophysics at Geoscan Group.
