GitVerse Brings AI Software Development Into the Air-Gapped Enterprise

Sber has opened local deployment of its GitVerse AI development platform for large enterprises, allowing companies to run the system on their own servers, including fully isolated environments with no internet access. Source code and data remain entirely inside the organization’s perimeter.

GitVerse is a Russian platform for industrial-scale software development with built-in AI capabilities. It can now operate inside isolated infrastructure environments. The sovereign DevSecOps stack is designed to provide flexibility, development speed and security throughout the entire software lifecycle.

Infrastructure Sovereignty

GitVerse combines a repository layer, the GigaCode AI assistant and the GigaIDE development environment. The packaged enterprise product allows companies to generate and store source code and data entirely within their own infrastructure perimeter. That reduces dependence on external cloud environments – a critical factor for the resilience of digital services in banking, government systems and large-scale corporate infrastructure.

The platform addresses several priorities simultaneously: import independence, data localization and cybersecurity. For Russia, that represents a strengthening of technological sovereignty at the foundation layer of the digital economy. Without sovereign repositories and CI/CD environments, building secure domestic applications and enterprise systems at scale becomes far more difficult.

AI Agents for Every Developer

According to SberTech, every tenth developer in Russia already uses GitVerse. The platform is evolving across multiple tracks: its portfolio of AI tools continues to expand, new features are released regularly, and the system now supports the full development cycle – from concept creation to deployment and scaling. Both startups and large enterprises can use the platform’s services for programming tasks. Through GigaStudio, for example, even users without coding experience can build web applications.

“Our goal is to make programming accessible to everyone. We follow an AI-first concept in which generative artificial intelligence becomes the core of every solution,” SberTech CEO Maksim Tyatyushev told Kommersant.

Building a Sovereign Development Ecosystem

Russia’s industrial software platforms are also being reinforced through state-backed initiatives. In 2022, the Russian government launched an experiment aimed at creating a national open-source code repository, establishing the institutional foundation for an independent development infrastructure.

In March 2024, Sber opened public access to GitVerse, offering repository migration from GitHub and GitLab alongside integration with GigaCode. At the same time, the company launched GigaIDE with a built-in AI assistant that accelerates development by an average of 25%. By 2025, GigaCode had received an on-premise enterprise version and agent-based automation capabilities.

That same year, Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development moved away from the idea of building a government-owned platform from scratch and instead proposed supporting existing domestic repositories, further strengthening the role of commercial platforms. Developers are now eligible for grants ranging from 100 million to 2 billion rubles (approximately $1.3 million to $25 million), with recipients selected by the Russian Information Technology Development Fund.

Open-Source Ecosystem

The expansion of GitVerse signals a new phase in Russia’s corporate IT import-substitution strategy. A sovereign technology stack is now taking shape, where repositories, integrated development environments, AI systems and CI/CD pipelines operate within a single protected perimeter. In the near term, the platform’s role is expected to grow further in regulated industries and open-source projects.

Russia’s digital economy is systematically moving toward full independence from foreign platforms. Sovereign development infrastructure enables deeper integration of domestic technologies while creating the foundation for fast, secure development of digital products that meet both enterprise demands and regulatory requirements.

We are taking GitVerse to a new level: alongside the free platform for mass users, we are launching an enterprise solution designed for deployment on a company’s own infrastructure. This is no longer just a code repository, but a production pipeline adapted for AI-driven development that increases business competitiveness
