Russia’s Yandex Maps and Yandex Navigator have introduced a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to calculate travel times based on individual driving behavior, the company announced. The neural network doesn’t just analyze the route or traffic conditions — it now considers how each driver actually drives.
AI Learns How You Drive
The system studies how many kilometers a driver covers each week with navigation enabled, their average speed compared to surrounding traffic, and their driving patterns, such as the frequency of overtaking. These insights are aggregated and used to refine travel time predictions.
The algorithm continually updates its forecasts using real-time traffic data and driver-specific trends. If a user begins driving more cautiously during the winter months, the system automatically adapts its calculations. The more a person drives with the app turned on, the faster the AI learns — and the more precise travel-time estimates become.
The update marks another step in Yandex’s push toward fully personalized navigation, combining route data, live traffic, and behavioral analytics into a single, intelligent driving assistant.
