Russian Oil Company Improves Forecasting of Oil-Bearing Reservoirs
Researchers have developed a seismic facies model for the Russkoye oil field that helps identify oil-bearing zones more accurately.

Specialists at Rosneft’s Tyumen research institute have developed a unique seismic facies model of the Russkoye field. The model helps engineers identify oil-bearing zones with high accuracy during drilling, the press service of Rosneft told IT Russia.
Researchers carried out extensive work to build the model. They analyzed sedimentation conditions, studied wave-field characteristics using seismic exploration data and examined well data. The completed model was tested on 90 wells and confirmed its high efficiency.
A Detailed Picture of the Subsurface
The seismic facies model provides a more detailed representation of the geological structure of the subsurface. It allows engineers to identify reservoir tops and oil-bearing formations twice as quickly and accurately. Deploying the innovation in drilling support operations is expected to increase the productivity potential of wells and improve management of Russia’s largest field of high-viscosity oil.
Earlier we reported that a digital system is now monitoring specialized equipment at oil fields in Russia’s Tyumen region.
