Computer Vision Technology Tested at Timiryazev Academy’s Michurinsky Garden
The Technology Is Designed to Help Guide Agricultural Machinery.
A computer vision system is being tested at the Michurinsky Garden of Timiryazev Academy. The trials are being conducted by specialists from the Institute of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture together with representatives of Itelma SP.
The system is designed to guide agricultural machinery. A lidar serves as its foundation, helping the main device create a digital model of the garden. The machinery uses that model to navigate between rows of plants. If an obstacle appears, the system recalculates the route in real time. The technology is designed to keep agricultural machinery moving predictably as conditions in the operational garden change.
“The deployment of domestically developed computer vision technologies is another important step toward addressing the most pressing problem facing Russia’s horticulture industry: a shortage of qualified personnel. Automating machinery movement between rows reduces the workload on operators, increases the productivity of field operations and reduces the industry’s reliance on imported solutions,” Timiryazev Academy’s press service said.
