Nizhny Novgorod University Launches Platform to Combat Information Manipulation
Experts at Nizhny Novgorod State University have developed the AutoFactCheck hybrid platform to detect fake news and information manipulation. The system combines artificial intelligence with expert review.
The platform was developed by the university’s Center for AI Applications in Journalism and Mass Communications at the Institute of Philology and Journalism. A working version was presented to media organizations, government agencies and law enforcement bodies in June at a roundtable hosted by the region’s Public Chamber. It can now be used by any newsroom as a tool for continuous monitoring of the information environment.
During the elections, the public election-monitoring headquarters in Nizhny Novgorod Region joined the information-verification effort. Some regional monitoring groups are already turning to their counterparts in Nizhny Novgorod to check questionable information and identify the nature of deepfakes.
