More than 100 esports clubs for school students are now operating in Moscow, where participants compete in games such as Standoff, Dota 2 and Fortnite, the city’s Department of Education and Science said. Around 2,000 boys and girls are enrolled in these programs. Over the past five years, the number of clubs has increased fivefold.

Developing Cognitive Skills

Each year, Moscow hosts the School Esports League, which has already attracted more than 30,000 participants. Competitions are held across three age groups. This year, more than 200 educational institutions have signed up, with students competing in 12 esports disciplines. In May, Moscow will also host the “Victory Tournament” for cadets and members of the Yunarmiya youth movement.

Educators say esports helps develop strategic thinking, reaction speed, teamwork and creative problem-solving. Similar esports centers are also being opened across Russia. In 2026, 38 phygital centers are scheduled to open.
