Winemaking companies in southern Russia are using automation to offset labor shortages across production operations. Kuban-Vino, one of the region’s largest wineries, has introduced digital systems to automate grape intake, water treatment, and document management.

At the raw-material intake stage, the company uses a telematics-based system that weighs incoming vehicles and places them into queues based on the grape varieties they are carrying. Pressing equipment is fitted with sensors that collect data on operating cycles and pressing parameters, with all information displayed through interactive task dashboards.

Automated systems are also being widely deployed at the Tsentr industrialnogo vinodeliya (Center for Industrial Winemaking). Upgrades to production lines have reduced equipment downtime and significantly increased output.

Industry specialists say full replacement of manual labor remains unrealistic for now. Grape harvesting, for example, is still handled entirely by workers because automated machinery can severely damage crops.
