AI Is Helping Russians Build Smarter Travel Itineraries

A regional official tested an AI-generated three-day tour in Lipetsk, showing how machine intelligence can personalize trips while staying within budget.

The tourism potential of artificial intelligence was recently highlighted by Sergey Kurbatov, deputy governor of Russia’s Lipetsk Region. He asked an AI service to create a travel plan for a three-day visit to the region in September 2025 and shared the results on his Telegram channel.

After specifying his preferences, Kurbatov received a detailed itinerary that fit within a budget of 30,000 rubles (about $330) for two people. The AI-generated plan included a walking tour of historic Yelets, visits to museums and natural landmarks, and tastings of local cuisine.

The State Duma’s tourism committee, together with the Ministry of Digital Development, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Economic Development, and industry representatives, has been working on a nationwide digital platform for travelers. A draft law has already been prepared for the launch of a Unified Digital Travel Platform.

The planned app will use AI to suggest trips based on personal interests and budgets, while also helping travelers save money. Developers stress that traveler safety will remain a top priority.
