Moscow Seeks Nationwide Innovation for Utilities Sector
The city’s “Energy of the City” competition will select the best technologies in energy, IT, robotics, and ecology, offering grants and pilot opportunities.

Moscow has launched the “Energy of the City” competition, aimed at finding and deploying cutting-edge technologies to modernize the capital’s housing and utilities sector. Winners will receive expert support, media promotion, opportunities to scale their solutions, and grants of up to 4 million rubles (about $44,000) to pilot their projects. The competition is part of a broader state program to implement eco-friendly and energy-efficient technologies through 2035.
The initiative is focused on bringing practical solutions in energy saving, IT, robotics, and ecology that are ready for real-world testing. Companies from all over Russia are invited to participate. A key requirement is a minimum technology readiness level of TRL-5, meaning that the solution has already been tested in lab conditions and is ready for trials in real environments.
The competition covers three main areas. Energy: projects for energy conservation in apartment buildings, energy storage systems, and smart resource management technologies. IT and robotics: tools for monitoring city infrastructure, robotic systems for municipal services, cybersecurity solutions, and noise and pollution control technologies. Ecology: initiatives for maintaining urban cleanliness, reusing waste heat, and cleaning bodies of water.
Applications will be accepted until September 30. Submissions and detailed conditions are available on the official “Energy of the City” competition website.
