AI Takes Root in Russian Vineyards to Boost Wine Quality

An agricultural innovation project in Crimea uses artificial intelligence to stabilize grape harvests and refine winemaking techniques

Digital technology is making its way into Russian agriculture—and now, even into the country's winemaking industry. In Crimea, the IT company Krym Digital, in collaboration with grape cultivation scientists, has launched a large-scale project to integrate AI into one of the region’s leading vineyards.

The entire vineyard is equipped with a network of sensors. Mobile platforms—essentially tractors with trailers—navigate the rows, inserting measuring instruments into the soil at regular intervals. Every 15 minutes, a neural network updates a virtual map of the vineyard’s health, identifies problem areas, and suggests maintenance strategies.

Another digital platform comes into play after harvest, during wine production. AI monitors fermentation, controlling temperature, oxygen, and other critical variables. If any parameter drifts from the optimal range, the AI winemaker flags it for immediate correction.

The combination of traditional craftsmanship and advanced algorithms allows for stable grape yields and the production of high-quality Russian wine.
