Artificial Intelligence Improves School Meal Quality in the Moscow Region
Photos of all school meals are uploaded daily for automated review.

Smart technologies are monitoring the quality of school meals in the Moscow Region, regional authorities said. In just the first six weeks of 2026, AI reviewed 66,000 photos of meals served to children and flagged 1,700 for violations.
The system has been analyzing food quality in 1,490 schools since 2023. Staff members upload photos of breakfasts, lunches, and afternoon snacks each day through the “Proverki Podmoskovya” (Moscow Region Inspections) platform. The technology compares each image with one of 75 approved dishes and alerts administrators if discrepancies are detected.
Complaints Drop by a Quarter
Over the course of the program, AI has helped eliminate 3,000 violations. According to the regional Ministry of Public Administration, Information Technology and Communications, complaints about school meals have fallen by 25 percent.
More than 50 AI solutions are currently operating in the region. Cameras equipped with video analytics monitor sports and fitness centers, tracking attendance, peak hours, and facility load. Based on this data, schedules can be adjusted, and authorities can make decisions about building new facilities.
