From Five‑Finger Designs to High‑Grip Functionality

Modesta initially focused on developing five‑digit prostheses, but—as CEO Ivan Petrov explained—the team “swiftly transitioned to more functional models that deliver reliable grip performance.”

The new mechanical prosthetics leverage either a shoulder harness or an elbow cuff to harness body movements for control. Integrated Bluetooth modules sync with a companion mobile app, which monitors patient activity and rewards consistent use with virtual coins. Users can then redeem these coins for prosthetic accessories or performance upgrades, a feature that not only drives engagement but also fosters faster rehabilitation.

Real‑Time Analytics and Patient Outcomes

Beyond motivation, the app captures usage metrics—such as daily wear time, grip force events, and range‑of‑motion data—which feed into analytics dashboards. Health professionals and patients gain insights into progress trends, enabling personalized therapy adjustments. Early data from pilot regions show a 30 percent increase in average daily wear time among participants, translating to accelerated muscle reconditioning and greater independence for amputees.

A Robotic Assistant for Hospital Efficiency

“The next frontier for us was robotics in healthcare,” noted Modesta’s CTO, Sergey Ivanov

In partnership with the G.A. Ilizarov Federal Center for Traumatology, Orthopedics and Endoprosthetics, Modesta developed a service robot capable of meal delivery, patient escorting, and information provision. Equipped with two variable‑width grippers exerting up to 20 kg of force—outperforming many foreign analogs—the robot can navigate corridors, respond verbally to common inquiries and display real‑time data on its built‑in screen.

Benefits for Staff and Patients

By handling routine tasks, the robot frees nurses and aides to focus on critical care activities, helping to address staffing shortages. It also reduces patient wait times for meals and improves in‑facility wayfinding. Analysis suggests that deploying just five units could decrease non‑clinical staff workload by up to 15 percent, yielding cost savings and higher patient satisfaction.

Modesta’s dual innovations underscore Russia’s growing prowess in med‑tech solutions, marrying mechanical design with digital incentives and robotics to enhance rehabilitation and elevate hospital operations.
