A digital service called Poisk mesta pamyati (Memory Location Search) has launched in Russia’s Orenburg region, enabling users to find the graves of relatives online without contacting cemetery administrators.

The service was developed by the region’s Ministry of Digital Development and Communications and was rolled out ahead of Radonitsa, a period of mass cemetery visits. Users can search by entering a person’s full name, along with dates of birth and death if available. The system provides the exact location, including sector, row, and plot number, and marks it on an interactive map with coordinates. In some cases, photos of graves are also available.

Authorized users can report errors in the database through a unified personal account, helping keep the information up to date.

Regional Minister of Digital Development and Communications Evgeny Moiseyev said digitization of burial records already covers a substantial volume of data, though the process is ongoing.

The service is currently available in test mode on the regional geoinformation portal.
