Russia Launches AI-Powered Air Quality Monitoring System

A real-time digital platform now tracks environmental pollution in Russia’s Murmansk region, processing live data from a network of sensors.

Russia has launched an AI-driven environmental monitoring system in the Murmansk region to provide real-time air quality data. The digital platform processes information from 11 monitoring stations, each measuring the concentration of harmful substances every 20 minutes. The system is capable of analyzing levels of sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, particulate matter, and soot.

The data is made publicly available on the official website of the city administration. For local residents’ convenience, the information is color-coded: green indicates a safe environment, yellow signals moderate pollution, and red marks significant exceedances of safe levels. Residents can not only access the current data but also view pollution trends over the past two weeks.

What sets this platform apart is its holistic approach to environmental assessment. The sensors account not only for industrial emissions but also the impact of transport infrastructure and other human-related factors.
