Russia Launches AI-Driven Call Filter to Combat Phone Scams

A new caller ID system in Russia blocks hidden numbers before the phone even rings, offering a new line of defense against fraud and spam.

Russia is stepping up its efforts to protect consumers from cybercriminals, rolling out a new feature that automatically blocks calls from hidden numbers. The technology is now available in the Android version of the Sberbank Online app and is designed to keep users safe from scam attempts, spam, and unwanted calls, according to Gazeta.ru.

The service, known as 'Caller ID,' not only identifies incoming calls but blocks anonymous ones before the first ring. It relies on a constantly updated database of flagged numbers, boosting its effectiveness in preventing fraud.

The feature marks another milestone in Russia’s broader push to build a secure digital environment. Hidden numbers, frequently exploited by scammers, will now be intercepted before reaching users.

Caller ID is included in Sberbank’s free service package, making the security measure accessible to all of its clients. Plans are underway to bring the feature to other platforms in the near future.
