Russia Launches AI Project for Video Generation and Deepfake Defense

A new initiative based at a Moscow research university aims to develop AI tools that create personalized videos while also guarding biometric systems against deepfakes.

Russia is launching a project to develop cutting-edge solutions for personalized video generation and the protection of biometric systems against deepfake manipulation. The initiative will be based at the Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics, under the coordination of the university’s Center for Artificial Intelligence.

One of the project’s main goals is to build multimodal AI models that can generate video content tailored to individual user requests. Research shows the average Russian spends over 90 minutes a day watching video content—mostly on mobile devices. These new tools will automate content curation and creation, enhancing user engagement and the quality of digital services.

An equally important objective is defending against AI-generated deepfakes. The team will analyze vulnerabilities in modern biometric systems and develop protective methods to counter fraud schemes. The project will be carried out by MTS Web Services and the Higher School of Economics, a leading research university in Russia.

This initiative represents another step in building a sovereign ecosystem of secure and high-performance digital technologies in Russia.
