Mobile operator T2 has launched a base station at the Vladimir Grib diamond deposit in the Arkhangelsk region, bringing voice and internet connectivity to a depth of 350 meters inside the open-pit mine.

The project was developed jointly with mining company AGD Diamonds. Engineers analyzed vehicle movement patterns across the site before selecting the optimal location for the equipment. The installation uses a specialized nine-meter mast mounted on a weighted concrete-base support structure, allowing the system to meet both safety and mobility requirements inside the quarry.

“Deploying an industrial communications network at a diamond quarry is a challenge where not only engineering complexity, but also human safety, is at stake. Thanks to solutions developed by T2’s technical specialists, we received not just network coverage, but a fault-tolerant digital infrastructure,” said Alexey Dmitriyev, deputy CEO for technical infrastructure at T2.

The company said the station’s power system was designed specifically for the local terrain conditions. All communication systems now operate in real time even in the most difficult sections of the quarry.
