Yandex Translate Adds Support for Adyghe Language
Yandex Translate has added support for the Adyghe language, allowing users to translate texts to and from 100 world languages directly in search results, on the web platform, and in the mobile app.
The announcement was made by Murat Kumpilov, head of the Republic of Adygea, during the Moscow conference “Informatsionnye tekhnologii i yazyki narodov Rossii” (Information Technologies and the Languages of Russia’s Peoples). The project was developed through a collaboration involving several organizations. Linguistic data used to train the system was collected by specialists from Adyghe State University, while the broader initiative involved Yandex, Dom narodov Rossii (House of the Peoples of Russia), and Russia’s Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs.
According to Kumpilov, bringing the language into the digital space creates major opportunities for people interested in Circassian culture, including access to publications and classic literature in the original language. He also said the launch carries particular symbolic significance during Russia’s Year of the Unity of Peoples.
Adyghe belongs to the Abkhaz-Adyghe language family and is one of the official languages of the Republic of Adygea. Its inclusion in Yandex Translate makes Circassian culture more accessible to millions of users worldwide and supports language preservation in the digital era.
