A new research and production center for unmanned systems, called Tekhnosfera, will be created in Krasnodar Region, regional Industry Policy Minister Dmitry Khmelko said.

He added that the consolidation of drone and component manufacturers is planned to be completed by the end of 2026.

“There are about nine leading unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturers in Krasnodar Region offering solutions for various sectors, including defense and agriculture. We have strong expertise not only in manufacturing drones but also in localizing their engines, with localization levels reaching up to 95 percent. Under the national project Bespilotnye Letatelnye Apparaty (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), the state is providing the necessary infrastructure and support to our manufacturers,” Khmelko said following the first Piloty Novogo Vremeni (Pilots of a New Era) forum in the Southern Federal District.

In the future, the center could become a pilot production site, capable of manufacturing prototype batches and launching serial production.

International Autonomous Delivery

Earlier, Polina Davydova, director of the Assotsiatsiya Tsifrovoy Transport i Logistika (Digital Transport and Logistics Association), spoke at the 88th session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s Inland Transport Committee about digital transformation in the sector.

She said the first cross-border autonomous freight transport between Russia and Kazakhstan is scheduled for this year. Autonomous deliveries are also expected to expand across the Russia–China border.

Davydova, who also serves as an adviser to the Russian transport minister, summarized progress in deploying digital solutions. She noted that the autonomous Lastochka train has covered more than 165,000 kilometers, while the autonomous ferries Marshal Rokossovsky and General Chernyakhovsky have transported over 3 million tons of cargo.

Looking ahead, the number of autonomous trucks in Russia is expected to increase tenfold by 2028. By 2030, two-thirds of trams in Moscow could become driverless. This year, 150 autonomous taxis are set to operate in the city.
