Russian AI Tools Detect Early-Stage Cancer and Cardiac Risks in Regional Clinics

Artificial intelligence is helping doctors in Russia’s heartland catch cancer and heart disease earlier—often before symptoms appear.
AI systems deployed in Russia are helping flag health risks and save lives. In Tula Oblast alone, over 931 early-stage cancer cases were detected last year thanks to intelligent screening, enabling timely treatment interventions.
These systems also analyze chest imaging and identify suspicious regions. In 2024, this helped local doctors uncover more than 7,800 pathologies in Tula residents, providing a critical edge in diagnostics.
Beyond oncology, the AI tools assess cardiovascular risk based on 150 health markers. They assist physicians by analyzing electronic medical records, surfacing key insights, and even suggesting next steps in diagnostics and treatment.
This progress is part of Russia’s new national initiative, 'Active and Long Life,' launched in 2025. A key focus of the program is the integration of robust IT infrastructure into healthcare, with over 35 billion rubles set aside for medical digitalization over the next several years.
