Russia’s 6G Technology Is Expected to Launch by 2032
Pilot zones could be rolled out as early as 2028

Senator Artyom Sheykin said in an interview with TASS that the technological foundation for sixth-generation mobile networks could be established in Russia by 2032.
According to him, Russia’s Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media has already allocated a subsidy to build the groundwork for such networks.
Learning From Past Mistakes
The project involves Skoltech and the Telecommunications Research Center. The first pilot zones are expected to launch as early as 2028. Developers plan to address issues encountered with 5G to avoid repeating them in the transition to 6G, particularly the limited availability of the so-called “golden band” of 3.4–3.8 GHz frequencies.
Earlier, Russia tested 50G PON fixed internet technology with download speeds of 38 Gbps and upload speeds of 21 Gbps—about 38 times faster than current home internet speeds in the country. This ultra-fast fixed network can be used to connect 4G and 5G base stations to improve indoor coverage.
