AI Creators Take Center Stage in Russia’s Creative Economy

Russia has launched a new season of the First Neurocontent Cup, a project designed to support professionals creating socially relevant content using neural networks. The initiative, part of the presidential platform “Russia – Land of Opportunity,” kicked off with a neuromarathon, whose winners will travel to Kaliningrad for an in-person media hackathon.

The neuromarathon brought together designers, IT developers, content managers, copywriters, videomakers, motion designers, AI creators and independent authors who use neural networks to produce socially significant viral content.

A Digital View Across Generations

Following the selection process, 19 teams were chosen to participate in the neuromarathon. Within 24 hours, they used generative AI to produce original video content on the theme “Russia in Space: A Digital View Across Generations.”

Participants were tasked with conveying the spirit of Russia’s historic space achievements and their significance for both the country and humanity through imagery, symbols and visual metaphors. Organizers noted that the intensive, time-constrained format allowed teams to fully demonstrate their collaborative skills, creative thinking and proficiency with emerging technologies.

This year, the competition introduced two tracks – beginners and professionals. In the professional category, the winning teams were “Yenisei and Angara” (Denis Sukharev and Daria Sukhareva), “Avengers” (Alan Abramov and Evgeny Demchenko), “Neurokitties” (Mikhail Radionov, Vyacheslav Shishkin, Artem Manukyan, Daniil Shadrin) and “Irbis” (Anastasia Otinova and Alexey Mazikhin).

In the beginner category, the winning team was “Team 34” (Galina Polunina and Flaviu Manuel Fransa). The best projects are available on the official channel of the First Neurocontent Cup.

The winners will take part in an in-person media hackathon in Kaliningrad on April 3.

More Than a Competition

The First Neurocontent Cup was launched in 2025, alongside the idea of the neuromarathon. The broader project and its individual tracks are designed to identify talent in IT, artificial intelligence and media. It is not just a competition but a structured system for developing professionals capable of contributing to Russia’s digital economy.

These competitions help formalize a new digital profession at the intersection of IT, media, design and generative AI. Participation from teams across different regions shows that demand has expanded beyond major cities, with many talented creators across Russia ready to develop their skills and pursue new opportunities.

The First Neurocontent Cup is also significant for the IT industry. By the end of 2025, Russia’s generative AI market was valued at approximately 58 billion rubles (about $620 million), with the majority concentrated in the B2B segment, where applied AI products and services are in high demand.

Competitions like the neuromarathon demonstrate that the state is systematically training specialists in AI-driven content creation. They also expand access for young people to new digital professions and opportunities for self-realization.

The Rise of the AI Creator

Russia’s talent development system is evolving beyond traditional IT skills, focusing increasingly on building a pipeline for more creative yet equally in-demand professions.

The role of the AI creator is gaining traction, and more educational initiatives are expected to support this trend. Demand for hybrid roles – editor + AI, designer + AI, producer + AI, marketer + AI – is likely to grow faster than demand for generic “AI users.” At the same time, these professionals are expected to develop media literacy skills, including the ability to identify misinformation.

Russia is aligning with a global trend in which AI is becoming not only an engineering discipline but also a mass creative competency integrated into workforce and media strategies. AI creators are no longer limited to entertainment content but are increasingly taking on tasks of national importance.

The top three regions by number of applications were Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and the Krasnoyarsk region, but participants came from almost the entire country. This shows that talented young people interested in artificial intelligence can be found in every corner of Russia
