A Digital Accountant for Microbusinesses: Uralsib Launches New Service

Uralsib has launched Accounting Outsourcing for AUSN, a service for microbusinesses. The bank’s customers using Russia’s automated simplified taxation system now have a convenient way to track income and expenses and interact with the tax authorities, along with unlimited access to professional accounting support.

Russia’s automated simplified taxation system, or AUSN, is available to companies with no more than five employees and annual revenue of up to 60 million rubles (about $700,000). Uralsib offers its new service to these businesses free of charge, helping them cut operating costs.

From a Checking Account to a Business Platform

With technical support from Astral Group, Uralsib has built an end-to-end digital environment that connects seamlessly with Russia’s Federal Tax Service (FTS), removing the need for businesses to prepare tax reports themselves – transaction data is processed automatically and sent to the tax authority. Taxes are calculated using data from online cash registers and bank transactions, while the service helps verify that transactions are recorded correctly. When an unusual case arises, an expert accountant from the bank steps in.

Moving from stand-alone accounting software to integrated platforms that connect banks, tax authorities and accounting systems can substantially reduce the administrative burden on individual entrepreneurs. Shifting microbusiness interactions with banks and the FTS into a digital environment is part of the AUSN experiment, which has been extended through the end of 2027. As services like these evolve, they are pushing small businesses further toward digital operations.

An Off-the-Shelf Product Instead of Custom Development

The geographic expansion of AUSN is making these services easier to scale: since 2025, Russian regions have been allowed to introduce the tax regime independently. According to FTS data as of July 1, 2026, 461,000 companies and individual entrepreneurs were using AUSN – 10 times as many as in December 2025. All of them must open checking accounts with authorized banks, a requirement for switching to the automated simplified taxation system.

Adoption on that scale creates steady demand for banking services that can support the tax regime while minimizing the resources businesses spend on it. Combining a checking account with online accounting, HR services and tools for marketplace sellers – the functionality offered by Accounting Outsourcing for AUSN – can save microbusinesses both time and money.

Banks do not need to build or commission custom software to serve these customers, an approach that is both time-consuming and expensive. Ready-made, off-the-shelf IT products offer a faster and simpler route. Uralsib, for example, used Rocket Science’s AUSN-Integrator on the iSimpleBank digital banking platform. Russian Standard Bank and seven other financial institutions have deployed BSS’s AUSN module on the Digital2GO platform. This model is likely to drive the next stage of development.

In Experimental Mode

Russia launched its AUSN experiment in 2022, initially across four regions. Sber immediately introduced the corresponding functionality in SberBusiness. In 2024, users gained the ability to handle FTS notifications directly through online banking.

By 2025, the regime was available in dozens of regions, and the number of users had exceeded 41,500. The number of banks authorized to work with AUSN grew as well – there are 57 today, including regional banks. Competition for customers has predictably pushed them to launch their own AUSN services and add new features, moving beyond technical support for the tax regime toward broader business support.

A Digital Environment for Microbusinesses

Uralsib’s launch reflects a broader shift among banks from financial service providers to digital business platforms that bring payments, taxes, accounting and HR management into a single interface. Through the end of 2027, the number of such products is expected to grow, accelerating the convergence of banking, tax and accounting services into a unified digital environment for microbusinesses.

Meanwhile, specialized services are likely to add more capabilities, including analytics, tax-burden forecasting and automation for marketplace sellers. For Russia’s IT industry, that creates demand for integration platforms and electronic reporting modules.

The move from fragmented interactions between businesses and government agencies toward an ecosystem model is one of the trends shaping the digital economy.

The project with Uralsib Bank has shown how a production-ready, scalable product can shorten the time to market for bringing new functionality into production. What made this project distinctive was that less than two months passed between the bank approaching us with its business requirement and connecting to the FTS and making the services available to customers
