Crimean Students Build Tank-Like Robots, Paparazzi Bots and Bartenders
High school students in technical programs in Crimea have designed and built a fleet of small self-driving robots.

Students in technical-track classes at Crimean schools, working at the Fevzi Yakubov Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University, have built self-propelled, tracked robot tanks, as well as robot paparazzi and robot bartenders. Elmar Yagyaev, head of the university’s Department of Electromechanics and Welding and a PhD in engineering, told TASS about the projects.
They Shoot Photos and Pour Drinks
Yes, the robots are small. But, as Yagyaev put it, the main goal is to teach school and university students to understand mechanics, electronics and software. By working with small, modular robots, future specialists learn the basics and principles of control systems. Once they master small machines, scaling up to larger systems becomes far less daunting.
Welding Robots and Manipulators
Starting in 2027, the university will introduce a new degree program titled “Specialist in Mechatronics, Robotics and Unmanned Aerial Systems.” Currently, 10th- and 11th-grade students undergo a three-year pre-university training program in specialties including electromechanics, drone operation, and CNC and laser machine operation. After completing the program, graduates receive a vocational qualification.
The university is also working with a leading Crimean manufacturer of electric welding equipment to develop robotic manipulators and welding robots. In addition, a robotics laboratory is being established where all new developments will be tested.
Earlier, we reported that a high school student from Volgodonsk came up with a proposal aimed at saving the sea.
