Russian Delegation Attends AI Summit in New Delhi

Officials emphasized digital equity and the United Nations’ coordinating role in global AI governance during the three-day forum in India.

A Russian delegation took part in an artificial intelligence summit in India, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. Representatives stressed the importance of bridging the digital divide and maintaining the United Nations’ central coordinating role in discussions on international cooperation in AI.

The forum was held in New Delhi from February 18 to 20. Russia’s delegation was led by Digital Development Minister Maksut Shadaev. The Foreign Ministry was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alimov.

In a statement delivered on behalf of the Russian Federation, officials highlighted the need to ensure safety and trust in artificial intelligence technologies. They also called for joint efforts to overcome digital inequality and create conditions for non-discriminatory access to AI resources, including data, computing capacity, and software and hardware infrastructure.

Developers Showcase Products

The Foreign Ministry said that during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit, Alexander Alimov and UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies Amandeep Gill discussed multilateral cooperation in the development of information and communication technologies. As part of the summit’s business program, leading Russian AI developers presented their products.

Earlier, we reported that the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology hosted a delegation from Peking University, marking a new phase in Russian-Chinese cooperation in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
