Russia to Launch Smart Coal Warehouse to Cut Industrial Raw Material Use

A digital warehouse developed by MegaFon and MMK will help Russian industry slash coke production inputs by 25 percent.
Russia is building a digital coal warehouse to modernize its coking coal operations. The technology agreement was signed by telecom giant MegaFon and the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The system is designed to simulate warehouse processes, allowing operators to track inventory levels and the movement of refined coal. It will also monitor the raw material's key characteristics and oversee the performance of unloading and loading machinery.
The new platform is expected to enhance product quality and streamline production workflows. Most significantly, it promises to cut the specific consumption of raw material—known as charge—by 25 percent in coke production, a critical input for pig iron manufacturing.
The rollout will start by integrating the digital platform with existing systems, along with launching tools for real-time tracking of incoming raw materials. Full-scale industrial implementation is planned for early 2026.
