Russian University to Host Robotics Hackathons
Participants will explore academic programs, new machines and build a drone by hand.

One of Russia’s leading technical universities – Natsionalny issledovatelsky tekhnologichesky universitet MISIS – will host MISIS Robotics Week. Over five days, from February 18 to 22, participants will study modern robotics in multiple formats. Educators will take part in the hackathon Robodni. During the competition, they will develop teaching materials for school students based on the university’s engineering projects. Teachers will also see complex engineering systems in person for the first time, including robotic buoys designed for education and the Frob mobile platform for robotics training. Organizers also promise an introduction to a microdrone described as having “character.”
Drone Training in Practice
Educators will be able to meet top students and assess which direction they should pursue in training their own pupils. MISIS Robotics Week will also feature another hackathon – Avtonomnye drony i bortovoy II: Khakaton-intensiv ot Sverkh (Autonomous Drones and Onboard AI: An Intensive Hackathon by Sverkh). Participants will test the educational drone Sverkh, built on the ROS 2 framework, learn how to deploy neural networks onboard and configure autonomous flight in an enclosed space.
Organizers plan to dedicate another hackathon to autonomous robotics. Guests of the week will build a robot based on ROS 2, the industry standard, gaining hands-on experience in auto-navigation and computer vision.
This is not just a competition, organizers say, but an intensive educational format led by experienced engineers.
