Artificial intelligence technologies are set to predict emergency situations at energy facilities, said Sergei Dregval, CEO of Inter RAO.

Speaking at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the company head outlined modernization efforts in thermal power generation, energy engineering projects, and the rollout of industry-specific digital solutions.

17 Million Users on “Dom”

Inter RAO is one of Russia’s largest diversified energy holdings, with key positions in power generation, electricity sales, international trading, and energy engineering. The CEO highlighted the company’s digital initiatives, including the Gosuslugi.Dom mobile app. It is now one of the most widely used applications within Russia’s public services ecosystem, with more than 17 million downloads.

The company also operates a remote monitoring and diagnostics center for energy equipment. The system analyzes the technical condition of power infrastructure in real time using domestic software and AI. Based on this analysis, specialists can predict equipment failures and develop action plans to prevent accidents.

From Forecasting to Prevention

Inter RAO’s subsidiary Sigma is developing a hardware-software platform called the Unified Digital Platform with Predictive Analytics. The project is expected to be completed by 2028. It is designed to reduce accidents to near zero by enabling specialists to anticipate failures and take preventive action in advance.

The company plans to invest more than 30 billion rubles (approximately $360 million) in its IT segment by 2030.

“We must actively adopt innovations and new technologies and develop our own engineering centers to address the most complex challenges facing both the company and Russia’s energy sector as a whole — particularly in supporting economic growth and improving quality of life,” Mishustin said.

Earlier, a unified digital system was proposed to manage Russia’s utility infrastructure.
