EGAR Focus: Banking Platform Upgraded for Crypto Assets
Russian developer EGAR Technology has built infrastructure for cryptocurrency transactions. The upgraded EGAR Focus platform, already used by several banks for securities-market operations, now supports the full life cycle of digital currency transactions as well.

Federal Law No. 282-FZ on digital currencies takes effect on September 1, 2026. And the financial market is actively preparing to launch operations involving the new asset classes. In parallel, a software environment is taking shape that can support regulated digital currency transactions in line with Bank of Russia requirements.
New Tools in a Familiar Environment
EGAR Focus supports spot-trade registration, financial result calculations and reporting. Quotes from external sources are pulled in real time, while cross rates and commercial exchange rates are calculated automatically and displayed in mobile and online banking. The system offers scenarios for both qualified and non-qualified investors. Importantly, the upgraded module is compatible with Russia’s domestic technology stack, including PostgreSQL, Astra Linux and other technologies.
“We want to give our clients the ability to use new tools within a familiar operating environment while maintaining unified processes for accounting, risk management and integration with banking systems. This allows banks to adapt more quickly to regulatory changes while maintaining a high level of automation and oversight, and to focus on developing new services for their customers,” said Elena Kramen, head of the Project Office at EGAR Technology. The company previously added new AI tools to its platform for trading and financial risk management.
Modernizing banking infrastructure gives customers access to legal cryptocurrency transactions through familiar interfaces, directly in their banking apps. For banks themselves, it creates an opportunity to increase transaction volumes through new financial assets and related services.

A Legal Catalyst
The Law on Digital Currencies and Digital Rights, adopted by Russia’s State Duma on July 21 this year, laid the groundwork for a legal cryptocurrency market with professional participants, including licensed brokers and asset management companies, digital depositories and crypto exchanges. The new legal framework has, in turn, spurred development of the necessary IT tools. Banks and investment firms need systems that can enforce limits for different categories of clients, integrate with digital depositories and generate reports for the Bank of Russia. EGAR Focus, which is listed in Russia’s domestic software registry, is designed to fill precisely that niche.
EGAR Technology’s near-term plans include expanding the platform’s customer-facing functionality to process cryptocurrency buy and sell orders, integrate with digital depositories and generate regulatory reports.

A Path to Legal Crypto Trading
Until now, digital currency transactions in Russia have been permitted only under an experimental legal regime for foreign trade settlements. The legislative framework for those transactions was established in 2024. In May 2025, the Bank of Russia allowed financial institutions to offer qualified investors securities and digital assets whose returns are linked to cryptocurrencies, while still recommending against investing directly in cryptocurrencies themselves.
The digital currency law that established the foundation for their legal circulation was adopted in July 2026. Cryptocurrency remains prohibited as a means of payment within Russia, but it can be used as an investment asset. In August this year, the Bank of Russia set an annual limit of 300,000 rubles (about $3,550) per intermediary on cryptocurrency purchases by non-qualified investors. The dollar equivalent uses the Bank of Russia’s latest available official rate of 84.5449 rubles per U.S. dollar.

Building the Technology Base for the Market
Russia’s financial market is looking beyond stand-alone crypto modules toward integrated platforms where digital asset accounting, risk management and reporting operate under regulatory requirements alongside traditional financial instruments. These platforms must also be built exclusively on domestic software. The EGAR Focus upgrade addresses exactly that demand. It can provide a full banking environment for crypto assets, covering customer transactions, automated limit monitoring, integration with digital depositories and compliance modules.
This year and next, Russia is expected to actively build and deploy an import-independent technology base for this new segment of the financial market at the country’s largest banks. After that, the technology is expected to spread to regional institutions.
