Russian Mining and Metallurgical Plant Boosts Output Through Automation
A new automation system at Udokan Copper has enabled record-breaking daily extraction volumes, improving efficiency even in harsh weather conditions

Automation Drives Record Mining Output
Udokan Copper has achieved a record level of daily rock extraction thanks to a fully automated open‑pit management system. At the end of November, operators extracted 166,000 cubic meters of material—well above the standard rate of 128,484 cubic meters, according to the company’s press service.
The increase in productivity was made possible by a domestic hardware‑software platform that coordinates all mining equipment across the pit. The system has already been installed on 65 haul trucks and 18 excavators, with another 23 units scheduled for integration by the end of December.
Real‑Time Coordination, Even in Low Visibility
The automated system analyzes the location and workload of every vehicle in real time, automatically assigning each machine to the appropriate work area. All operational data flows to the mining dispatcher’s workstation.
Even during periods of limited visibility, the system maintains optimal routing using satellite data and network signals. This ensures continuous operation and steady extraction rates, regardless of weather conditions.
Boosting Operational Efficiency
Automation also enhances production reporting. The system automatically collects and processes data on trip counts, actual output, operating time, and idle periods.
By reducing organizational downtime, improving equipment‑utilization rates, and balancing loads across the fleet, the new automation platform minimizes human error and increases overall operational efficiency.
