Rosenergoatom Brings Esports to the Nuclear Industry
Russia’s largest low-carbon energy producer is turning to gaming and digital sports to connect with young engineers and coders.

In October 2025, Rosenergoatom, a subsidiary of the state-owned Rosatom, will host a large-scale Digital Atom Festival in St. Petersburg — an event merging esports, coding, and innovation. The two-day festival, held October 21–22 at the Lakhta Hall complex, celebrates the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear industry while promoting the fusion of high technology and corporate culture.
Gaming Meets Engineering
Teams of employees from nuclear power plants across Russia will compete alongside students from top technical universities that train specialists for Rosatom. The lineup includes tournaments in Counter-Strike, cyber-football, and cyber-basketball, as well as phygital sports — games blending digital and physical activity. Another major event will be an algorithmic programming challenge, giving future engineers and IT professionals a stage to demonstrate their technical skills.
Recruiting Through Play
Organizers describe the festival not just as a competition but as a talent accelerator — a way to attract and engage the next generation of innovators who will shape the future of clean energy and digital infrastructure. After a successful debut in 2024, the growing interest in Digital Atom highlights the rising appeal of hybrid digital-technical initiatives among young professionals.
Rosenergoatom currently operates 11 nuclear power plants, including the world’s only floating nuclear station, and generates about 19% of Russia’s total electricity. The company is also expanding into electric vehicle charging networks and robotics, strengthening its position as a leader in next-generation energy technology.
By bringing esports into the mix, Rosenergoatom is showing that even the nuclear sector can level up — blending innovation, education, and competition to power the future.
