Russian School Launches VR Simulator to Teach Children Road Safety
School No. 1 “Lider” in Khimki has launched what officials describe as Russia’s first VR-based road safety training system. The project was developed by the Moscow Region Transport Ministry together with technology company Urbantekh.

The simulator’s virtual environment recreates real streets, courtyards, and parks in Khimki. The mobile training setup includes 15 VR headsets, 30 controllers, and a laptop running specialized software. The program is divided into three 15-minute scenarios – “Home to School,” “School to Park,” and “Park to Home.” In each module, children make independent decisions while navigating realistic traffic situations.
The project is part of the national Infrastruktura dlya zhizni (Infrastructure for Life) program and is aimed at reducing traffic injuries among children. Following the pilot launch in Khimki, officials plan to expand the simulators to other schools across the Moscow region.
