Russian Scientists Develop Method for Modeling Aortic Valve Prostheses
The new approach takes into account individual characteristics of how the device interacts with a patient's body and reduces the risk of complications after valve replacement.

Specialists at Sirius University of Science and Technology and Perm National Research Polytechnic University have developed a method for modeling a prosthetic valve for the aorta, the body's main artery, the university's press service said.
In severe cases of stenosis, valve replacement remains the only way to save a patient's life, while selecting a prosthesis based on echocardiography and tomography data does not make it possible to predict how it will interact with an individual patient's blood flow.
A neural network recreates the trajectory of the valve leaflets, while a left ventricular model describes uneven blood flow. This will make it possible to select the optimal prosthesis before surgery. The results were published in the Russian Journal of Biomechanics.
