Engineers at DST-Ural have developed an automated control system for heavy equipment, according to the press service of the Ministry of Industry, New Technologies and Natural Resources of the Chelyabinsk Region.

Machines are able to adapt to different operating conditions thanks to a digital twin of the terrain. The model is created using drones equipped with LiDAR scanners. Full automation makes it possible to carry out work in hazardous and hard-to-reach areas with minimal human involvement.

Equipment Working as One System

Connected through a unified digital network, the machines instantly exchange a wide range of data, including coordinates, payload weight, fuel levels, and movement vectors. This allows equipment to work together efficiently without an operator in the cab, while the entire process can be monitored remotely using VR headsets.

The company has also developed specialized simulators that allow future operators to be trained from scratch.
