22,000 Smart Electricity Meters Are Now in Use in Kalmykia
The republic has installed 678 of the devices since the start of the year.
Since the beginning of 2026, Kalmykia has installed 678 smart electricity meters, 39% more than during the same period last year. The figures were reported by the press service of Rosseti Yug. Since the republic’s electricity metering digitization program began in 2018, a total of 22,000 smart meters have been installed.
Smart meters make life easier for both consumers and utility providers. Consumers no longer need to regularly submit meter readings because the process is automated. The meters also analyze electricity consumption patterns, detect deviations in power supply parameters and allow utilities to respond quickly to network disruptions.
“The installation of smart meters is being carried out under agreements for technological connections to the company’s power grid infrastructure in the region. Under Russian law, the installation and maintenance of electricity meters are fully covered by the power company and are free of charge to consumers,” the company’s press service said.
