Buryatia Launches Digital Soil Monitoring System
The equipment was installed on experimental fields in the village of Ivolginsk.
The Buryat Research Institute of Agriculture has launched a digital soil monitoring system called SAM-N. It is the third such station operating in Siberia. Two others are located in Tunkinsky National Park in Buryatia and in Tulun in the Irkutsk Region. They will become part of a unified network for joint research by the Institute of Climate and Environmental Systems.
The regional Ministry of Agriculture said that shifting from periodic observations to continuous data collection will make it possible to build a detailed database for assessing drought risks and modeling soil water regimes. The data will serve as a basis for developing adaptive farming technologies.
