AI-Powered Systems Are Keeping Russian Cities in Check

Neural network–equipped mobile units are spotting everything from potholes to illegal trash dumps—before residents even notice

In Russia, cities are increasingly turning to AI-driven monitoring to keep urban environments in shape. In the northern city of Arkhangelsk, local authorities have rolled out a neural network–based surveillance system developed by domestic tech firm Softlogic.ai.

The system is mounted on vehicles that patrol different neighborhoods, scanning for issues ranging from damaged roads to unauthorized garbage disposal. By processing video directly on board, the AI can identify and transmit data in real time, regardless of the car’s speed. It can also generate detailed work orders for municipal contractors and update dispatchers on completion status.

Beyond Arkhangelsk, the technology is already in use in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk—streamlining city maintenance and cutting response times to urban problems.
