In Russia, Artificial Intelligence Ensures That Electric Cars Never Run Out of Charging Options
In Russia, artificial intelligence is being deployed to ensure that electric vehicles always have access to available charging stations, using real‑time analytics and intelligent monitoring

Smart Infrastructure Expands
Tatarstan is accelerating the rollout of intelligent EV charging infrastructure powered by artificial intelligence.
In Kazan, 15 smart charging stations are already operating, installed by the regional Grid Company together with partners. The software enabling these features was developed by E‑Prom, a Russia‑based manufacturer of EV infrastructure.
How the AI System Works
Each charging station is equipped with video analytics that identify obstacles, recognize vehicle types and detect whether parking spots designated for EVs are occupied by internal‑combustion‑engine vehicles. The system issues voice
alerts and transmits real‑time information to station owners through a mobile application. According to E‑Prom’s commercial director, Marat Nurgaliev, the platform can notify operators about improperly parked vehicles and constantly track charging‑point availability.
Scaling a Regional Network
In 2025, about 40 charging stations were installed across the republic under a federal program, including in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Kukmor and Agryz. At least ten more are planned for next year. Kazan is focusing on improving the efficiency of existing infrastructure, while other cities continue active network expansion.
There are now 184 charging stations in Tatarstan, most of them fast chargers delivering 80–150 kW. Their intelligent capabilities are growing: the stations will soon be able to guide users through the charging process, remind them of safety requirements and assist with connector attachment. AI is also used for remote diagnostics, winter maintenance and reducing operating costs.
Private home‑charging solutions and public infrastructure are jointly stimulating the transition to electric transport in Russia. According to national plans, around 3,000 fast charging stations will be deployed across the country by 2025–2026.
