Technology Against Digital Cheat Sheets

Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science, known as Rosobrnadzor, has announced the introduction of new devices designed to detect violations during the Unified State Exam, or EGE. The agency plans to deploy special signal jammers equipped with artificial-intelligence algorithms.

The equipment blocks electronic devices that exam participants might use to receive outside assistance. The system targets smartphones, smart glasses, micro-earpieces, and other compact gadgets.

The technology analyzes radio signals inside the examination room and identifies suspicious transmissions. Once detected, the system automatically suppresses the communication channel, reducing the likelihood that hidden communication devices can be used.

Protecting Exam Materials From Leaks

The new system is also intended to prevent exam questions from leaking online during testing. In previous years, authorities recorded cases in which exam materials appeared on the internet before the exam had finished.

Rosobrnadzor believes that using AI-enabled signal jammers will make the examination process more fair. Oversight is expected to become more technological and less dependent on human monitoring.

Equipment at the Ready

The problem of banned electronic devices during exams remains significant. According to the agency, nearly 800 students were removed from the Unified State Exam in 2025 for attempting to cheat.

The new radio-suppression systems will become part of the broader digital infrastructure used to monitor the exam. Rosobrnadzor expects that artificial-intelligence technologies will help ensure equal conditions for all graduates taking the test.
