Artificial Intelligence Now Monitors Driver Behavior Across Russian Roads

An AI-powered video analytics system is being deployed inside vehicles to track road safety and driver well-being, significantly cutting accident risks.

Russian transportation companies are rolling out a domestically developed video analytics system designed to monitor road conditions and driver behavior. The system flags speeding, sudden braking, and close following, while also assessing the driver’s physical state to help prevent accidents and emergencies.

Installed directly in vehicle cabins, the AI-powered kits use computer vision to continuously monitor the driver—not just body posture but even facial expressions. If the driver dozes off, the neural network triggers a wake-up alert.

The system is now being implemented nationwide, including in the Tyumen region. One transportation firm, SibBurMash, reports that the AI has reduced dangerous driving incidents by 84 percent. When the system detects safe and responsible driving over time, drivers become eligible for bonuses and other incentives. Company leadership sees strong potential in this homegrown technology, citing its ability to make logistics operations more efficient and road travel significantly safer.
