New High-Tech Rail Hub for Handling Mineral Fertilizers Built in the Baltic
The project is being implemented jointly by the Port Alliance group of companies and Russian Railways (RZD).
The Port Alliance group of companies has completed the construction of a new rail hub for handling mineral fertilizers in the Baltic. The facility will operate at the Port Favor terminal in the Ust-Luga seaport.
The project was developed in partnership with Russian Railways specialists. A conveyor system links the rail, warehouse, and berth infrastructure. An automated control system has also been integrated at the facility, connecting key processes into a single technological loop.
The central element of the new hub is a dual-track unloading station. It can handle up to eight freight cars in just 12 minutes. It is equipped with two automated electric positioners for precise placement of railcars at the unloading front. A mobile transfer platform is used to automatically move empty railcars to internal tracks.
The technological scheme of the new hub can reportedly be adapted to the specifics of handling different types of fertilizers.
